한국 영상 서사의 지속가능성: 나이지리아, 남아프리카공화국, 케냐 담론을 중심으로

초록

This paper is a preliminary study on the sustainable expansion of Korean visual narratives. Focusing on the success of Korean visual works that have become a global phenomenon in conjunction with OTT, it examines the sustainability and potential diffusion of Korean narratives mediated through moving images. Africa is selected as the spatial focus for examining the possibility of expanding Korean narratives. This choice takes into account several factors: the expansion of the foundations of South Korea’s national strategy toward the Global South amid a shifting geopolitical world order; Africa’s growth potential; the pursuit of greater balance in overseas area studies; and the discursive diversity generated by Korean narratives themselves. This study is structured as follows. First, it examines, from epistemological and methodological perspectives, the significance of analyzing visual narratives as semiotic resources and as resources that form discourse communities. Next, using Squid Game as a case study, it comparatively analyzes responses from major media outlets in Nigeria, South Africa, and Kenya based on content analysis. Finally, the study discusses its academic and policy implications.
