초록

A perception of the world and method of writing in Kim Kwang-gyun’s poems have a close relationship. His tragic recognition of the world was consisted of a one-sided sense of alienation and loss caused by forced urbanization during the Japanese colonial period, and his writing method was selected as a kind of strategy to embody the aesthetics of sorrow with vivid imagism. Sensuous images to express a sense of loss, tragic characteristics as a psychological compensation of it, exotic images as an original signifiant and so on are consistent principles consisting his poetic world. His modernism was, therefore, not a thoroughly ideological but quite a methodological one and his vivid sense goes toward a sort of a criticism of civilization. Grief, emptiness, absence and a sense of loss in Kim Kwang-gyun’s poems were originated from the sorrow of subjects who lived through the period. This paper unearthed and introduced the new materials which include the conversation between Im Hwa and Kim Kwang-gyun in the late period of Japanese imperialism. They examined the relationship between New-tendency poems and modernism from the perspectives of ‘reality’, ‘novelty’, ‘morality’, ‘tradition’, and so on. With this materials, it became clear that Kim Kwang-gyun’s modernism also has a strong orientation towards the reality.
