초록
This study examined factors associated with social adaptation in South Korea among Chinese-born youth and young adults with North Korean backgrounds and, as a supplementary analysis, explored their post-school transition experiences. Survey data were collected from 111 respondents residing in South Korea. The findings showed that sense of belonging/social support and self-efficacy were significantly associated with current social adaptation both before and after background variables were controlled, whereas Korean language ability emerged as a significant protective factor in the final model with background variables additionally controlled. Experiences of stigma and discrimination were negatively associated with adaptation in the baseline model, but their independent association weakened and became non-significant in the final model. Support access and continuity showed a significant bivariate association, but did not retain independent explanatory power in the regression models. The supplementary descriptive analysis indicated that college enrollment was the most common post-school pathway, although some respondents experienced interruption and re-entry, with economic hardship identified as a major challenge. It also showed that some post-school mentoring ties were maintained, but actual contact was infrequent, suggesting the need to strengthen relational support beyond formal connections.
