This study is aimed to explore the racial discourses on black soccer players by analyzing the TV live coverages of 2010 FIFA World Cup games. The two games in which African teams competed against Korean teams: 'South Korea vs. Nigeria' and 'North Korea vs. Côe d’Ivoire. The verbal texts presented from two live coverages were studied with the interpretative textual analysis. The results of this study are as follows. First, the body and physical strength of black soccer players were emphasized on explaining their performance; black soccer players had good muscular development, flexible movement, speed. The stereotyped representation of black athletes is made as the racial images of black athletes are constructed on the media. Second, sports announcers used more expressions about individual skills of black players than those of Korean players. Though soccer requires teamwork more than individual skill, the outstanding techniques of black soccer players were highly presented. Also it was stereotyped as the African soccer style.
