초록

This research evaluates the impact of an organic Rankine cycle (ORC) powered by various heat sources on enhancing the primary energy saving potential of a liquid desiccant and indirect and direct evaporative cooling-assisted 100% outdoor air system (LD-IDECOAS). The liquid desiccant used for dehumidification of the process air needs regeneration that in turn requires a low-grade heat, preferably waste heat from a combined heat and power (CHP) system, to maximize the energy benefits in this thermally driven air condition system. Considering that ORC is a promising CHP system, we applied a solar thermal system and a district heat source, respectively, to a 2-kW ORC integrated with an LD-IDECOAS to build two system cases for a comparative study. The primary energy consumption of each system case was estimated and compared using detailed energy simulation. The results of the analyses show that the ORC-integrated LD-IDECOAS powered by the district heat source exhibits the best primary energy saving potential (i.e., 35%).
