장애인 도우미 활동참여 노인의 경험

초록

The aim of this study was to describe the experience of the elderly as a helper for the disabled. The descriptive phenomenological study design was employed. Individual interviews were conducted and audio-taped. Colaizzi's data analysis method was used to inductively determine themes and formulated meanings. Data saturation was achieved and methodological rigor was established. Four themes were identified and these themes included ‘Hesitation in a conflict situation,’ ‘Positive attitude with a new perspective toward the disabled,’ ‘Being content with one’s life’ and ‘Having the personal satisfaction of one’s social activities’. The participation of the elderly in social activities like a helper for the disabled showed positive effects on health such as better psychological well-being and life satisfaction, less depression, better-perceived health status, and health condition. Further study is required to develop strategies to encourage the elderly to involve themselves in social activities.
