Cross-sectional examination of indigo penetration and cellulose removal in indigo ring-dyed and cellulase-treated denim yarns

초록

It was found from commercial denim fabrics that the more ring-dyed denim with less dye concentration is found to be washed down by cellulase treatment in a shorter treatment time, the lesser the strength reduction of denim fabrics. More intensive examinations on cross-section images of ring-dyed and cellulase-treated denim yarns were carried out by a polarizing microscope to observe whether cellulose removal by common industrial washing of denims using cellulase is occurring in the level of cotton fiber or fibril and whether a degree of ring-dying of denim yarn has an effect on that of outer fibers of cotton yarn. The relationship of yarn penetration of indigo dyes and enzyme abrasion time of indigo dyed fabrics were also compared.
