Examining the Relationships Among Depression, Career Self-efficacy, and Job Satisfaction Among Young Unemployed individuals: A Multi-group Analysis across Gender

초록

Based on from Integrated Social cognitive career model(Lent, & Brown, 2008), we conducted this study to examine the mediating roles of career self-efficacy in the relationships between depression and job satisfaction. In addition, we tested measurement invariance and latent mean difference between males and females. To do this, we performed the correlation analysis, structural equation modeling, and multi-group analysis using the Youth Panel data obtained form the Korea Employment Information Service covering the period of 2012 though 2014. Findings indicated support for our hypothesized mediated model. Specifically, the relationship between depression and job satisfaction was mediated by career self-efficacy. The multi-group analysis revealed that measurement invariance between males and females were supported. Also, males reported significantly stronger depression than females and males showed significantly lower career self-efficacy than females and males reported significantly lower job satisfaction than females. Finally, we discussed limitations, ideas for future research, and implications.
