Design and Application of a PIV System for Wind Tunnel Flow Quality Assessment with Complex Inlet Geometry

초록

Subsonic wind tunnels play a crucial role in evaluating aerodynamic performance and validating designs across various industries, including aviation, automotive engineering, and architecture. This study presents the design and implementation of a particle image velocimetry (PIV) system to assess the reliability of the subsonic wind tunnel at Hanyang University, which was installed in 2001. The wind tunnel, capable of reaching flow velocities up to 60 m/s, features a complex inlet geometry that necessitates a thorough evaluation of its flow quality. Potential issues such as high turbulence intensity and flow non-uniformity are analyzed using a non-intrusive, high-resolution PIV system. This paper provides a detailed account of the system’s design and implementation, highlighting its effectiveness in diagnosing flow characteristics and its potential applications across diverse research fields.
