Quantum interface of interconverting the quantum state between light and surface plasmon polariton

We propose a novel approach of hybrid quantum systems for quantum information processing: Stationary systems with relatively low mobility such as quantum dots and trapped ions are used for computational tasks, whereas flying systems with high mobility such as light is for communicational tasks. For the purpose, however, we need a quantum device, called a quantum interface, that has a capability of interconvering a quantum state from one system to the other and vice versa. In this work, we discuss a quantum interface for light and surface plasmon polariton (SPP). We show that the quantum interface is highly efficient rather than any others being ever discussed. We discuss further that SPP can be employed to intermediate a quantum state from light to a stationary systems such as quantum dots and trapped ions, replacing cavities that have conventionally been adopted to couple coherently light and atoms.
