초록
This study investigates the particulate-matter (PM) removal effect of a liquid desiccant-evaporative system. The liquid desiccant and evaporative cooling-assisted 100%-outdoor-air system (LD-IDECOAS) that was proposed in previous research was selected and compared with an existing variable air volume (VAV) system. The compared PM parameters were PM 10 and PM 2.5 (i.e., particulate matter 10 and 2.5 μm), respectively. The selected systems were compared in an office room, using weather data from Seoul, Korea. Three seasons, summer, the intermediate season and winter, were selected to compare the seasonal removal effect of both systems. The ambient PM 10 and PM 2.5 concentration data was obtained from a government institution. The PM concentrations in the room were predicted using mass-balance equations in commercial equation solver software. The thermal loads of the modeling space were calculated using the TRNSYS 18 energy simulation software package. In the results, LD-IDECOAS showed a lower indoor PM concentration than the VAV system, except during winter. The liquid desiccant system and direct evaporative cooler in LD-IDECOAS both provided efficient PM removal. When these components operated, LD-IDECOAS performed better than the VAV system. In winter, the two systems performed equally well, and the results were the same. Therefore, LD-IDECOAS has a superior indoor PM concentration in the cooling season, compared with the conventional VAV system.
