초록

Cantica sacra, a collection of motets composed by Du Mont(1610-1684), is the first printed example in France(1652) of the petit motet for two, three, or four voices and basso continuo. Born near Liège, Du Mont was surely exposed in Italian stile moderne on top of the Flemish background. With this career he wrote petit motets in Cantica sacra after being employed as organist in Paris. This study analyzed the style and forms of 40 petit motets in Cantica sacra a n d examined how he put together the progressive trend of the Flandre and consolidated and systematized i n motet, which became to be the canon of French religious music in the second half of the 17th cen tury. In this collection he experimented Les goûts réunits by mixing and combining of diverse styles of Flemish polyphony, German choral, and French tradition other than Italian modernism. Particularly, it is noticeable that he audaciously combined and contrasted the characteristic features of air de cour, such as simple melody in narrow range, long-short syllables, frequent changes of 3 and 4 meters, homophonic texture and fauxbourdon, to other styles in the multi-sectional structure, and tried to establish a n ew French motet style. With the result of an experiment in the collection, Du Mont created the classic model of the grand motet which is the most representative and symbolic genre in the Grand siècle.
