The electrospun nanofibers are usually fabricated in non-woven form, which is very suitable for applications such as wound dressings. The electrospun non-woven webs usually have small pores which could prevent bacteria penetration. The material which has high surface area is very important for fluid absorption and drug delivery. So far, PVP(poly(vinyl pyrrolidone)) has widely been used in the biomedical field because of its attractive properties including non-toxicity, biocompatibility, high hydrophilicity, good complexation properties, and film-forming ability. Silver has long been known to have strong inhibitory and bactericidal effects as well as a broad spectrum of antimicrobial activities. In this paper, nanofibrous PVP/NSE (nano silver ethanol) webs have been obtained by electrospinning. The antibacterial activity of the electrospun webs against the Gram-positive bacteria Staphylococuus aureus and Gram-negative bacteria Escherichia coli has also been assessed.
