Latent Class Analysis of Delinquency Experiences Among Out-of-School Adolescents: Differences in Emotional and Behavioral Problems by Type and Influencing Factors

초록

This study classified latent groups of delinquency experiences among out-of-school adolescents and examined differences in emotional and behavioral problems and the predictors associated with each group. Latent class analysis was conducted using data from 752 out-of-school adolescents drawn from the Mental Health Survey of Korean Adolescents collected by the National Youth Policy Institute. Three latent classes were identified: the Runaway & Violence-Centered Group, the Drinking & Smoking-Centered Group, and the Stable Group. Significant group differences were found in somatization, depression, anxiety, suicidal ideation, and stress. Media use and perceived burden toward mental health services were identified as risk factors, whereas self-esteem and family relationships were protective factors. Social support reflected the availability of external support resources that may operate compensatorily when family functioning is weakened. Based on these findings, differentiated intervention strategies and implications for future research were discussed.
