Static analysis-based co-simulation method of interior permanent magnet synchronous motor for railway vehicle

As efficiency and high performance are required of traction motors for railway trains, interest in interior permanent magnet synchronous motors is increasing. In addition, for stability and accuracy of the system, simulation identical to the actual driving environment is required. Basically, electric devices are designed using the finite element method, but these devices do not consider the system in which the motor is driven, such as the spatial harmonics and control algorithms. In order to compensate for this problem, co-simulation, which involves finite element analysis and, simultaneously, control simulation have been studied; the analysis, however, takes a long time. In this paper, we proposed an offline analysis method based on static analysis. The proposed method can consider the spatial harmonics, confirm transient response characteristics with fast analysis time, and proceed with controller optimization. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed method was verified by fabricating a traction motor for railway vehicles.
