지역 노동시장에서 대기업 고용 변화의 임금 효과
초록
This study examines mainly the income and wage effects of regional changes in large firm employment. The fraction of workers in a large firm with 300 or more employees varies by region, and also changes differently over time. Constructing the regional panel dataset, I estimate the effects of large firm employment on per capita gross regional domestic product(GRDP), gross regional national income(GRNI) and personal income(PI), and find some positive effects on per capita GRDP and GRNI while finding no significant effect on PI. In addition, the increase in large firm employment seems to affect wages in small firm employees negatively. This result is confirmed by the individual panel data analysis. Using the Korean Labor and Income Panel Study, I find that the fraction of large firm employees in regional labor markets has a negative impact on wages overall after controlling for individual and job characteristics. These results show that enhancing large firm employments would not be enough to improve the standard of living of residents. The regional policy-makers should also pay attention to the impacts of the changes in large firm employment on small firm employees and self-employed persons when designing a regional economic policy.
