Evolutionary Trends and Efficiency Factors of XR Remote Collaboration: Toward an Integrated User Experience (UX) Framework

As digital technology advances and global remote collaboration grows, Extended Reality (XR) has emerged to overcome the limitations of traditional video conferencing. This study systematically analyzes the evolutionary process of XR technology and its efficiency factors based on 715 publications from Scopus and Web of Science (2000-2023). From a User Experience (UX) perspective, we investigate the core factors and research trends affecting collaboration performance. Our analysis confirms that while early research focused on system acceptance and immersion, recent trends highlight HCI factors such as spatialized auditory cues, gaze and attentional cues, embodiment, and role clarity as critical determinants. Evaluation methods have also progressed from simple satisfaction surveys to multidimensional indices like NASA-TLX, System Usability Scale (SUS), and social presence scales. Unlike previous studies focused on task-specific efficiency, this research provides an integrated framework by clarifying how UX factors shape XR remote collaboration over time.
