In this study, we propose a new approach to assess the stability of Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generator (PMSG) based wind turbines through a method of Small Signal Analysis (SSA) utilizing Monte Carlo Simulation (MCS). PMSG wind power systems are generally known to have high resistance to Sub-synchronous Oscillation (SSO), however, the potential for oscillations to occur is dependent on the serial compensation of transmission lines and the robustness of the connected grid. Therefore, stability analysis is necessary at the system connection planning stage of PMSG wind turbines. In this research, we presented a state-space model of PMSG wind turbines and derived a sensitivity matrix to analyze eigenvalues in response to parameter changes. Based on the sensitivity matrix, we grouped the main factors affecting the eigenvalues to facilitate MCS calculations. The results obtained from the MCS-based SSA method identify the stable and unstable regions of the PMSG wind turbines, providing selective solutions for the design of a stable PMSG wind power system.
