부모와 자녀간의 연령차가 평균소비성향에 미치는 영향

초록

Age difference between parents and children has been increasing in Korea. This paper investigates the effects of the age difference on the average propensity to consume using a household cross-section data. Estimation results show that the age difference is negatively associated with the average propensity to consume. This finding is robust to the measures of age difference and the number of children. However, the negative association is strong only in the sample of young children. The empirical findings suggest that the households with larger age difference have higher present value of expected future consumption relative to the present value of expected future income, thereby tend to reduce consumption and increase savings.
