김정은 시기 북한 핵 담론의 지속과 변화: 네트워크 분석과 내용 분석의 병행

초록

This study aims to analyze the nuclear discourse that North Korea is forming and track changes in North Korea’s policy stance regarding nuclear weapons. We select articles of the Korean Central News Agency subjects of analysis and examine the articles through word network analysis and frame analysis for North Korea’s nuclear discourse. According to the result of the word network analysis, when referring to Korea and the U.S. in the nuclear discourse before the dialogue phase, articles utilized negative words such as puppetry, provocation, war, nuclear war, and threat, meaning military confrontation together. Words meaning military confrontation were still frequently used in the nuclear discourse after the dialogue phase, but when referring to the U.S., positive words were utilized together compared to the previous discourse. Furthermore, based on the result of the frame analysis to look at the more detailed nuclear discourse, before the dialogue phase, North Korea emphasized its nuclear development’s inevitability to counter the U.S. nuclear threat. Even after the dialogue phase, North Korea did not change its nuclear discourse much. This study demonstrates that North Korea went back to the past’s logic as negotiating denuclearization through the inter-Korean summit and the U.S-North Korea summit became demanding.
