Long term results of microvascular decompression of the cochlear nerve for intractable tinnitus

Medically incurable tinnitus may lead patients to undergo severing of the cochlear nerve with no guarantee of cure. Vascular compression of the eighth cranial nerve is increasingly recognised as a possible cause of tinnitus. there hve been, however, few reports on the criteria used for patient selection and the efficacy of microvascular decompression for tinnitus. The sratistically significant factors were age, preoperative level of hearing, preoperative brainstem auditory evoked potentials, duration of symptoms, and laterality of tinnitus. vascular compression of the cochlear nerve may result in tinnitus and MVD can cure medically intractable tinnitus.
