초록

This paper introduces a catechism on evil practices in Youngnam academic world argued between Tasan Cheong Yagyong and Lee Inhaeng, and analyzes the contents of the catechism. Tasan had been good friends with Lee Inheang since his was young. Tasan even wrote a writing for him in 1799. After that, they had a fierce dispute about the academic attitudes of North and of South in 1822. When they parted, Tasan gave two writings which include his own thought to Lee Inhaeng. In contents of these writings, we could understand the mutual recognition of two scholars of different. After Lee Inheang returned home, he sent a long reply to Tasan. And this, once again, clearly confirmed the difference of two scholars. Tasan lamented bitterly about reality that Youngnam studies fell into intolerant self-righteousness not accepting others and fighting each other. On the other hand, Lee Inhaeng`s answers pointed out the inverted attitude of northern scholars and presented a right way of studying. The dispute on the academic attitude of north and south within the allied Namin scholars is very interesting in various ways. Through these self-confessions, problems of the academic world were concreted in those days. However their attitude accepting the criticism of opponents and not losing catholicity is very impressive.
