The effects of the structural stiffness of concrete slabs on the floor impact noise, were investigated through the field measurements and computational analysis. In this study, the various methods to reinforce slab structures were applied: increment of compressive strength and slab thickness of slab structures and attachment of a F.R.P. beam under the ceiling. Floor impact sound and vibration were evaluated by the field measurement and the FEM using the heavy-weight impact source. As a result, it was found that the floor impact sound pressure level (Li,Fmax,AW) was decreased in spite of increase of the compressive strength due to increment of SPL at 63 Hz. In case of a single slab in the floor impact sound test building, it was observed comparatively that impact SPL was decreased 2 dB every 30 mm increment of concrete slab. The range of concrete thickness was from 150 mm to 240 mm. However in case of a composite slab, it was observed little decrease of impact SPL. In case of attachment of FRP beam under the slab, the floor impact vibration acceleration level and impact SPL were reduced up to 3 dB and the resonance frequency of the slab was increased. The measurement result of the application of FRP beam in the test building was similar to FRP plate on whole slab in the vibration analysis.
