The objective of this article is to develop a iron loss calculation process of induction motors (IMs) considering slot harmonics to reduce the required computational time in the design stage of high-efficiency IMs for traction applications. When an IM is utilized for traction, both the operating speed and saturation level increase compared to typical industrial IMs. Therefore, accurate prediction of IMs losses becomes crucial for designing high-efficiency motors. Additionally, given the lengthy computational time is required for considering the harmonic characteristics of the IM, minimizing the time for loss analysis is essential during the design stage. Therefore, this paper presents a fast and accurate iron loss calculation process of IMs considering harmonic components using scale method.
