Analysis of Filtration Mechanism for Filter Bag Media

Filtration mechanism for filter media is not perfectly analyzed yet, and some basic equations (Darcy, Kozeny and Carman) have some limitations to apply for filter bag media that they may be applied only to spherical particles, does not take changes in permeability during filtration, and assumes Newtonian flow. We prepared various filter bag media by a nonwoven pilot plant coupled with needle punching and thermal bonding combination processes. Filtration behavior of filter bag media was divided to two stages, plugging and cake filtration, from filtration performances test. The plugging process was derived to simple linear equations, and the cake filtration process was derived to exponential equation by regression analysis. From the cake filtration equation, it was deduced the expectation of life-time for cleanable filter bag media.
