언론법제 연구와 교육의 교량(橋梁)이 되다 — 故 平人 팽원순 교수 재조명 —

초록

Media law is a field of study that studies phenomena by harmonizing the two fields with studies such as journalism and law. For that reason, there is always a problem with the difficulty of harmonizing in terms of methodology. Professor Paeng Won-soon (hereinafter Professor Paeng) has long been aware of this and devoted to research and education in the field of American-style media law. This study looked at how Professor Paeng's efforts and aspirations in research and education contributed to academic development. As a researcher, Professor Paeng left a considerable amount of research papers and writings. While very few media scholars studied and wrote papers on media law, Professor Paeng has accumulated so many research achievements at the time and played the role of a road and bridge leading to the development of the field of media law research today. He also actively engaged in academic exchanges with scholars of foreign countries such as Japan and the U.S. In particular, he expanded the scope of research and actively engaged in writing activities in areas that did not receive much attention. Professor Paeng's efforts seem to reflect his desire and passion for the establishment of media ethics legislation as an independent study. As an educator, Professor Paeng is believed to have provided education that reflects the beliefs of a scholar who is a media liberal but considers media responsibility important. Therefore, he emphasized the need for autonomous regulation and compliance with media ethics while considering the public's right to know and freedom of reporting. Above all, he contributed to the establishment of a system of media law education in universities and graduate schools. He delivered the importance of education on media ethics by lecturing at prestigious universities and graduate schools such as Seoul National University, Yonsei University, Korea University, and Sogang University. The limitation of this study is that it originally intended to examine academic contributions through a multi-dimensional reassessment of Professor Paeng, but only descriptive explanation of his contributions to research and education. Nevertheless, Professor Paeng's achievements in various research and education are considered a great example for junior scholars. Professor Paeng's contribution to his studies, as well as his constant efforts for establishing the independent field of media law, is something that media law scholars now should bear in mind at least once.
