The Influence of Psychological Independence from Mother and Ego-Identity to Career Indecision of High School Students: The Moderated Mediation Effect of Social Relationships

초록

This study identified mediated effect of self-identity in the process of high school students’ conversion from psychological independence from mother to career indecision and validated whether moderated mediated effect of social relationship exists during that process. Questionnaire survey regarding psychological independence, self-identity, social relationship, and career indecision targeting 300 high school students in Korea was conducted and the surveys were analyzed by using SPSS 22.0 and the PROCESS Macro program. This study identified the mediated effect of self-identity in the process of converting from psychological independence from mother to career indecision. In addition, the moderated mediated effect of the social relationship with mother, father, and siblings in the process of psychological independence moving on to career indecision through self-identity has been identified. In conclusion, the results of this study imply firstly, that social relationship and high school students’ self-identity are necessary along with improvement of psychological independence to resolve career indecision and secondly, that understanding high school students who experience difficulties due to career indecision can be enhanced and lastly, effective and practical career counseling can be conducted.
