Prepatation and properties of poly (lactic acid) nanofibers with Silver nanoparticles

Electrospinning is an efficient method for fabrication of polymer nanofibers. The solution of poly (lactic acid) (PLA) in dichloromethane/dimethylacetamide (DMAc) with a small amount of AgNO3 was investigated. Silver nanoparticles were fabricated by reduction of Ag+ ions in DMAc. The solvent of DMAc was used as a reducing agent for the Ag+ ions in PLA solution. Silver nanoparticles were homogeneously distributed in PLA nanofibers. The silver nanoparticles were effective to form thinner PLA nanofiber. Furthermore, the diameter of PLA electrospun fibers was decreased with increasing the nanoparticle contents. Viscosity is one of the most important parameters to prepare the electrospun fibers. The viscosity of PLA solution containing silver nanoparticles was affected by the formation of nanofibers at various conditions such as processing temperature and concentration variation. The relationship between rheological properties and morphology of electrospun fibers were discussed.
