Wh-Movement in Korean Inter-English: A case study

초록

The purpose of this presentation is to investigate data produced by an intermediate-advanced learner of English particularly focusing on grammatical properties related to wh-movement. It discovers that even though the general feature of wh-movement has been acquired by the Korean Inter-English user, some significant aspects of the grammar seem to be assimilated to those of the Korean grammar. In clausal structure, more specifically, complementation and clause-typing are syntactically realized separately and the topic-comment structure is grammatically established. Movement and deletion rules, further, are more permissive and formatives are of more general purpose.
