New Town Development and the Role of Master Planner

This is a summary of the achievements and limitations of the master planner (MP) system and the roles the MPs played in the Asan New Town Development Projects. Based on this I would like to present the guidelines for future improvement. The New Town Development Projects can be divided into two phases according to the MP`s roles and achievements: in Phase 1 the zoning and land use plans were determined before the introduction of the MP system: in Phase 2 the MP system was in place from the beginning stage of the phase.
