초록

Roughly speaking, Practical Decision Theory is divided into Evidential Practical Decision Theory and Causal Practical Decision Theory. As well known, many philosophers think that the Newcomb Problem provides good reason for Causal Practical Decision Theory. Similar to Practical Decision Theory, Epistemic Decision Theory is divided into Evidential Epistemic Decision Theory and Causal Epistemic Decision Theory. Interestingly, Hilary Greaves have recently provided the Epistemic Newcomb Problem. She claims that it provides good reason for Causal Epistemic Decision Theory as the Newcomb Problem does for Causal Practical Decision Theory. However, I show that, in light of the crucial difference between Practical Decision Theory/the Newcomb problem and Epistemic Decision Theory/the Epistemic Newcomb problem, the Epistemic Newcomb problem fails to provide as good reason for Epistemic Causal Decision Theory as the Newcomb Problem does for Practical Causal Decision Theory.
