Just noticeable difference of psychoacoustical and autocorrelation function parameters of refrigerator noise

Just noticeable difference (JND) of sound quality metrics of Zwicker parameters - loudness, sharpness, roughness, fluctuation strength and tonality - and auto-correlation function parameters - phi (0), tau 1 and phi 1 - was investigated by using refrigerator noise. Loudness and phi (0) of recorded sound samples from five refrigerators was varied according to constant intervals in sound pressure levels. Sharpness was also changed at 14-16 barks in order to provide experimental sounds. Roughness and fluctuation strength were changed by varying amplitude modulation frequencies in time domain. Tau 1 and phi 1 value were varied by using pitch shifting and strength control, respectively. Auditory experiments were conducted to discriminate the JNDs of sound quality metrics by method of limit. The results indicated that JNDs of loudness and sharpness were 0.50 sone and 0.08 acum, respectively. JNDs of roughness and fluctuation strength were also found as 0.04 asper and 0.012 vacil, respectively. The values of 2.0 dB, 0.40 ms and 0.08 were investigated as the JND results of phi (0), tau 1 and phi 1, respectively. These results can be applied to estimate the perceivable difference of sound quality metrics.
