압록강 국경 표상의 형성
초록
In the ancient times, Amnokgang River has no significant current for both Korea and China. It was Goguryeo period when Amnokgang became the issue between Korea and China. Korea and China had competed for supremacy bordering each other for over 100 years and in that confronting situations, the existence of Amnokgang river became generally known. For about 300 years after the collapse of Goguryeo, the region around Amnokgang River was the ownerless land occupied by Jurchen without no supremacy. With the ostensible agreement on the border between Goryeo and Song Dynasty in 962 and invasion by Khitan and diplomatic negotiation with Khitan in 993, the status as the border was granted to Amnokgang River. At that time, the war of nerves was ceaselessly continued between Goryeo and Khitan to have dominium on Amnokgang River. Goryeo gave up the northern district which couldn’t be physically restored and adjusted the legitimacy and territory concept of Goguryeo by posting the events and sites in the ancient history on Goryeo territory bordered by Amnokgang River. Such adjustment was observed by setting the feudal territory of Ki Tse on the eastern side of Amnokgang River in 1055. Since then, Jin Dynasty expressed friendship by giving the district around Amnokgang River to Goryeo. As Goryeo entered into friendly relationship with Jin Dynasty, the status of Amnokgang River as the border became consolidated. Those in Goryeo and Yuan Period didn’t have clear awareness on the border because of the dominant-subordinate relationship between both dynasties and generally recognized Amnokgang River as the border between both dynasties. It means that Amnokgang River was established as a kind of the symbol as the border. Since then, Amnokgang River as the symbol of border had significant impact on the awareness on territory and history.
