초록

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of scaffolding types on the shared mental model in a computer-supported collaborative learning environment. From perspectives coming up with the related theories and empirical efforts, it was assumed that the shared mental model might be acquired through providing with conceptual and metacognitive scaffolding. In order to find out the above described purpose, the following research questions were delineated. First, whether the scaffolding types have significant effect on the sharedness between group member’s mental models. The sharedness was defined as the degree to which group member’s mental models are similar in structure. Second, whether the scaffolding types have significant effect on the accuracy of shared mental model. Accuracy refers to the degree to which the shared mental model is similar to an expert’s. The structural similarity such as sharedness and accuracy was measured by Pathfinder Networks. The quantitative results(coherence, correlation, similarity of networks) showed that scaffolding types were not the significant predictor in acquiring the shared and expert-like mental model. However, the qualitative results(degree, density, cluster type, focal node) of the study indicated that group with metacognitive scaffolding have shown higher structural similarity than group with conceptual scaffolding in CSCL.
