Dehumidification performance variation of a packed-bed cross-flow liquid desiccant dehumidifier by geometrical adjustment

초록

This study conducted parametric analysis of each geometric parameter (i.e., packing height, length, width) on dehumidification performance via a series of simulation. To predict the dehumidification performance in various geometrical conditions, the packing specific surface area estimation method and a two-dimensional heat and mass transfer numerical model were adopted. The simulation model was validated by comparing its results with experiment data from previous study, and the proposed model was in good agreement with the measurement data within 20% error bounds. From the parametric analysis conducted using the proposed numerical model, it is clear that increasing the packing length achieves higher dehumidification effectiveness compared with increasing the packing width or packing height. Consequently, it may be concluded that the cross-flow liquid desiccant dehumidifier can have a high dehumidification performance comparable to that of the counter-flow dehumidifier, achieved by modifying the physical dimensions of the packing tower, especially the packing length.
