언어폭력 금지를 통한 여성 위상 제고 활동 연구

Verbal violence against women, which was rampant from the late 19th century to the beginning of the Japanese colonial period, becomes the target to be discussed in this article. At that period, the existence of female was not only negated through the social tradition of calling them as nicknames, but also vulnerable to profanity. Female, therefore, became easily to the victims of violence; it caused to initiate a social consensus conducive to the promotion of the authority of female. This writer traces to all these various social consensus. The most distinct movements second to none came from Christian realm; cultivating of a male morality for a sound family dynamics as well as spreading of an educative propaganda for the authority of the fetus as a human being. It brought forth the decrease of domestic violences such as verbal attack against female and her careful choice of words in relationship with her fetus. In addition, another consensus movement appeared as a contextualization movement in digesting a newly accepted Western cultural heritages of ‘etiquette.’ Negative evaluation of female in social parties and activities met a new phase of change toward accepting the authority of female and her own independent decision. Behind this ambivalence did a gradual promotion of the authority of female occur.
