학벌과 출신 지역의 미디어 재현과 청년세대의 감정구조 : 지역 청년과 지방대생의 취업 과정을 중심으로

In South Korean society, the region of origin and academic background have multiple socio-cultural meanings. In particular, it can be seen that the region of origin and academic background have more influence on the young generation. This study focuses on the region of origin and academic background being reproduced in the media and focuses on the structure of feelings that appears in the entrance examination and employment process of young people, belong to a specific group. For in-depth interviews on this issue, the research participants were specified as local youth and provincial college students, and their structure of feelings were examined in the broader context of neoliberalism. For this, using Raymond Williams' concept of structure of feelings, we analyzed the local youth’social desires and needs. Especially, in order to explore the areas of origin and academic background that are reproduced in the media, textual analysis was conducted on television programs that directly deal with the hardships experienced by the young generation and pay close attention to local universities and regions. In addition, in-depth interviews were conducted to examine the impact and socio-cultural implications on actual young people along with textual analysis. The objects of the textual analysis were the KBS <Kim Yu-jin: Story of a Local University Student> (documentary), tvN <Misaeng> (TV drama). We found that young people today are accepting discrimination and unreasonable systems in the context of fairness and social legitimacy. Eventually, this degreeocracy was creating another socio-cultural prejudice by injecting a sense of helplessness, deprivation, compliance with the unfair system. We also found that local characteristics and familyism were internalized for local youth and provincial college students.
