The effects of Music Therapy on the Quality of Life of Stroke Patient

초록

This study aimed to verify the effect involving the improvement in quality of life, applying a music therapy to chronic hemiparetic patients due to a stroke. The subjects of our study were 25 stroke hemiparetic patients being registered with N Day Welfare Center located in Nowon-gu, from March 21st to September 21st, 2007, and we classified them into music therapy group with 13 patients and control group with 12 patients. Then we carried out a music therapy and physical therapy side by side in music therapy group for 6 months, and only physical therapy in control group for 6 months. In this study, with a result that we compared the total scores of general quality of life in stroke hemiparetic patients, the quality of life in music therapy group which has been placed under a music therapy and physical therapy side by side, appeared to made progress meaningfully, in comparison with control group which has been placed under only physical therapy (p<0.01). As the result shows that a music therapy generally improves mental and physical function of a stroke hemiparetic patient, and finally has an effect on the improvement in quality of life, it will be applied as a useful rehabilitation therapy mediation in the clinic field.
