The relationship between travel career and subjective well-being

초록

This study aims to classify travel careers into distinct levels using the Travel Career-ABC model and to explore the relationship between travel career level and subjective well-being. The Travel Career Integration Model facilitates a multidimensional assessment of travel career by conceptualizing its factors as cognition, emotion, and behavior. The study’s findings reveal three key insights. First, travel careers were categorized into four levels, with the highest level scoring significantly higher across cognition, emotion, and behavior factors. Second, subjective well-being varied by travel career level, with individuals at higher levels reporting greater well-being, underscoring a strong link between advanced travel career levels and increased happiness. This finding highlights the potential of investing in travel career development to enhance the happiness derived from travel activities. Third, while an integrated travel career positively influenced subjective well-being, the impact varied across factors. Cognition and emotion significantly affected subjective well-being, whereas behavioral factors, such as the number of past trips and expenditure, did not show a meaningful influence. This suggests that simply increasing travel frequency or spending does not necessarily boost individual happiness, emphasizing the importance of the qualitative aspects of travel experiences over quantitative measures.
