초록
Since corporate social responsibility (CSR) has emerged as the key issue of management, there is growing needs for organizations to strategically pursue the CSR activities. Further, toimprove the performance of the activities, it is critical to develop a model that is suitable for thecharacteristics of a specific industry. The health care industry, which has a large possibility andnecessity of CSR activities for improving the health of people and the welfare of society, is thefield of insufficient for a systematic analysis of CSR. This paper tries to analyze the CSRprograms of CMC, the largest hospital in Korea, and present CMCs CSR framework as a model forbenchmarking of other medical corporations. It is argued that pursuing the strategic CSR activitiesrequires to be based on the creating shared value (CSV) perspective. Since the CMC presentedthe management philosophy of creating the social value, based on religion (Catholic), as well aseconomic value, this is a suitable business case for creating shared value (CSV). Also, the CMCcase shows that the CSV model pursuing both economic value and social value is suitable forapplying to the medical corporations (hospitals). Further, in order to achieve successful CSR andCSV, organizations need to develop the education system to share the new value (i.e., socialvalue) with employees in the entire organization and introduce that into human resourcemanagement system. This paper conducted a case analysis of CMC CSR program from the CSVperspective, identified a CSV-type benchmarking model considering industry characteristics, andsuggested managerial and policy implications.
