초록

Objectives: The objectives of this study were to examine user satisfaction with hospital information system at five veterans hospitals in Korea and to identify the factors related to the satisfaction. In doing so, this research explored whether the order communication system went wrong in the hospitals. Methods: A user satisfaction questionnaire based on previous studies was developed for this study. A user satisfaction survey was conducted from May 17, 2007 to May 23, 2007, to measure the user satisfaction with hospital information system in five veterans hospitals. A total of 478 respondents completed a questionnaire designed to measure the user satisfaction with order communication system in the hospitals. Data were analyzed using SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Science) 12.0 program to determine user satisfaction, correlates of satisfaction, and self reported evaluation about order communication system. Results: The results of this study were summarized as follows. First, as the results of this study showed, the hospitals` respondents showed that satisfaction with order communication system was about average level (mean scale = 2.8 on a 1 to 5 scale). Second, by characteristics of respondents, there was statistically significant difference in system satisfaction, job satisfaction, information satisfaction and participation. Third, by the level of user participation intention, there was statistically significant difference in system satisfaction, job satisfaction, and information satisfaction. Fourth, by level of user ability to access and operate the system and its information, there was statistically significant difference in system satisfaction, job satisfaction and information satisfaction. Lastly, by each department of hospital, factors to influence system satisfaction varied. The factors were age, size of hospital beds, using period, a level of user ability of information and its system, level of education and so on. Conclusions: This study suggests that the user satisfaction with hospital information system influenced on the process of work and employee`s performance at the veterans hospitals. For installing more efficient hospital information systems, it must be very important to understand why users did not show satisfaction with the system and to identify factors related to user satisfaction with the system. Thus, hospitals should seek and try to develop some measures for establishing user-oriented information system. The lessons learnt from this research may be applicable to the installation of new hospital information systems.
