커뮤니케이션 유형이 SI 프로젝트 범위관리에 미치는 영향 분석

SI projects comprise 60% of all projects in IT industry. The success ratio of SI projects is lower compared to other industries. The reason is that the intangibility of the project product, which is software, leads customers to change the requirements of the project frequently, and as a consequence affects the project scope, schedule and cost. The scope management is an important factor for the SI project success, and mainly performed through project manager and/or part leader’s communication. This research attempted to analyze the communication styles of project managers/part leaders and customers, and investigated whether the communication styles had any impact on the scope management of the SI projects. We surveyed project managers and part leaders who had experience in SI projects, and collected 50 questionnaires for analysis. The results show that the communication styles of the project managers and part leaders, when analyzed separately, did not have significant impact on the scope of SI projects. Neither did the communication styles of the customers. However, certain communication styles from the two groups interacts and can have impact on the scope of the SI project. That is, there is a very high possibility of project scope increase when a project manager with cooperative communication style meets a customer with self-centered communicatin style. Therefore it may be necessary that project managers need to adopt a proper communication style depending on the customer’s communication styles in order to reduce the possibility of scope changes for SI projects.
