Estimation of Harmonic Losses and Current Distortion considering Magnetic Saturation and Coupling Inductance for Dual Three-Phase PMSM

Dual three-phase permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSMs) are increasingly used in various applications due to their higher power density and efficiency compared to conventional three-phase motors. However, the cross-coupling components between sets increase control complexity and lead to current distortions. As a result, the harmonic losses of both the motor and inverter can be increased due to these current distortions. Thus, estimating harmonic losses while considering current distortion is essential for dual three-phase PMSMs.This paper proposes a method for accurately estimating current distortion and harmonic losses, taking into account magnetic saturation and cross-coupled inductance in dual threephase PMSMs. The proposed approach accounts for spatial harmonics in inductance and field flux, aiming to precisely forecast current distortion caused by cross-coupling components. Specifically, a modeling technique for inductance and field flux using finite element analysis (FEA) is introduced. Subsequently, the prediction of current using mathematical models in two individual control approaches is presented.
