결혼이주여성의 사회연결망과 교육지원행위에 관한 탐색적 연구: 한국인과의 관계형성 과정 및 유형을 중심으로

This research aims to develop a social network typology of marriage-migrant women and to examine the patterns of parental involvement by each type of network. The data used in this study were collected from in-depth interviews with 16 migrant women who have school-aged children and they were analyzed utilizing the QSR NVivo 8 program. Following a ‘thematic coding’ scheme, 489 codes were extracted and categorized into 51 nodes. These 51 nodes were recategorized into 10 nodes through a clustering process. As a result, it draws two main types of networks based on whether or not migrant women have social networks with Koreans. In the case of having ties with Koreans, there were three sub-categories (school parent centered, social activities/neighborhood centered, and combinational). There is also a group of people who do not have close ties with Koreans.. The major findings of this paper are as follows. Those who have school parent centered and combinational networks tend to provide their children with every aspect of parental involvement, such as educational support at home, participation in school-related activities, and psychological support. On the other hand, those who have either social activities centered/neighborhood centered ties furnish their children with educational support at home and psychological support, but are not likely to participate in school-related activities. In the case of those who have no close ties with any Koreans, they are inclined to be indifferent to parental involvement. These findings suggest that the impact of social networks on parental involvement are different by types of networks and having social ties with Korean school parents is a crucial factor in parental involvement for multicultural families.
