The purpose of this study was to verify the effect of the temperature of flushed outdoor air on reducing the concentration of formaldehyde and VOCs of newly built residential buildings. The experiments were conducted in a thermal environment chamber, which has been similarly designed as a newly built residential building. The chamber was furnished with all new materials and furniture. The chamber was flushed with three different temperature, 11, 16, and 21°C of outdoor air. The results of the experiments show that the flush-out with the outdoor air for fourteen days is effective to reduce the emission potential of formaldehyde and VOCs emitted from new furnishing and furniture. Even though the reducing formaldehyde and VOC concentrations were relatively small at the low temperature, the flushing with 11°C outdoor air could be applied to newly built residential buildings.
