Technological Accumulation Paths and Transitions in Autonomous Ship Technologies: A Patent Citation Network Analysis

초록

Autonomous ships have emerged as a core technology amid structural changes in the maritime industry, including labor shortages, safety demands, and carbon neutrality. As autonomous ship technology is realized through the integration of multiple technologies such as sensors, control, communication, and Al, a system-level perspective is required. This study applies Main Path Analysis(MPA) and Persistence analysis based on a patent citation network to identify major technological trajectories and transitions. The results indicate that the technology has evolved along four pathways-platform development, operational stabilization, industrial application, and operating-system-based integrated management (Paths A-D). Core patents in each period served reference points through repeated citation, and recent trends reveal a paradigm shift from equipment-level technologies toward system-centric approaches such as data integration and multi-platform management.
