다문화교육에 대한 다문화주의적 재고찰 : 다문화교육 개념의 지형

초록

The multicultural education policy in Korea has been pursued from various angles over the past decade, resulting in remarkable achievements. However, confusions and misunderstandings have continued in both policy and practice regarding what multicultural education actually is. This paper refines the discussion of multicultural education policies and practices by revisiting the concept of multicultural education based on the multiculturalist perspectives. In this conceptual paper, we understand multicultural education as a multiculturalist education, and we examine how multicultural education can be conceptualized from the perspectives of communitarian multiculturalism, liberal multiculturalism, and critical multiculturalism to suggest a topological framework for understanding multicultural education. Based on the resulting framework, we discuss the need for multicultural education to be understood, analyzed, and evaluated not only in terms of pedagogical practice, but also in terms of policy design and institutional change at the educational system level.
