두 개의 바퀴, 트랜스내셔널리티와 내셔널리티: 팬데믹 속 한국의 중국현대사 연구(2020~2021)

초록

This article is to overview 188 pieces of articles relating to the contemporary history of China published in 2020 and 2021, and to offer a critical review for enhancing future research. A few characteristics and trends can be detected and summarized below. First, while transnational and cross-border studies continued to develop, the nationality in the contemporary history of China was re-questioned and reexamined in the recent historiography. It reflects that national discourse has recently been strengthened in East Asia under the COVID-19 pandemic. The unique hybrid between trans-nationality and nationality in historical research is seen in the articles on renewed history textbooks in Taiwan. Studies on the Republic of China, regained momentum by tracking the historical roots of the discourse on Chineseization and Confucianism under the Xi Jinping regime. 2020 marks the 70th anniversary of the Korean War and the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Chinese Communist Party. Many papers have been published on two topics. The most outstanding achievement during the last two years is the rapid growth of studies on the PRC era. Literature on the PRC period outplayed papers on the republic era regarding the number of articles and young scholars. Finally, there was diversification and expansion in research fields, from the previous urban studies into medical care, resources, energy, etc.
