초록
The purpose of this study was to validate the ‘Social Media Disorder (SMD)’ scale, developed by van den Eijnden and colleagues(2016), for use with Korean adolescents. To achieve this, a total of 460 adolescents with experience using social media participated in the survey. After excluding 12 responses due to insincere answers or inappropriate age, 448 responses were included in the data analysis. The main findings of this study are as follows. First, an exploratory factor analysis conducted to examine the factor structure extracted six factors and 15 measurement items. Second, a confirmatory factor analysis indicated that the final items demonstrated a good model fit, and both reliability and validity were verified. The overall reliability coefficient of the Social Media Disorder scale for Korean adolescents was found to be .86, while the reliability coefficients for each factor ranged from .67 to .90. Third, the results regarding criterion validity and discriminant validity are as follows: the criterion validity with the Smartphone Addiction Scale, a concept similar to social media disorder, was .76. Additionally, the discriminant validity was confirmed by examining correlations with different constructs such as self-esteem, loneliness, depression, and impulsivity, which ranged from .35 to .44. Finally, the implications of the study and suggestions for future research were discussed.
