초록
This study explores the evolving roles and meanings of university professors in the AI era by employing Levinas's philosophy of the Other as a theoretical lens. Six professors with university teaching experience were selected as participants, and a narrative inquiry was carried out based on their vivid accounts. With regard to the changing role of professors, three key themes emerged: the nature of their existence, the perspective from which they should teach, and the pedagogical approach they should adopt. Specifically, professors sought to be 'the Other' rather than 'knowing beings,' to teach from a 'perspective of infinity,' and to engage in 'open dialogue.' Additionally, the study identified three distinct roles for professors: as participants in unknown conversations, as those who acknowledge the unknown nature of learners, and as professors reflecting on the unknown world. The analysis therefore highlights the content of education, nature of learners, and role of professors. This study offers significant theoretical and practical insights, encouraging a reconsideration of the essential role of university professors in the AI era, where adaptation to rapid change is critical, and underscores the evolving meaning of teaching.
